i see p/doc in 3 days and am going to go on serzone again because i never gave it a real shot. the longest i took it for was about 2 weeks. i will augment it with wellbutrin so it will be
serzone 400 bedtime
wellbutrin 200 B.I.D along with the rest of meds.
has anyone had any decent effects on mood/SP/anxiety?
is it as decent as an older med? do ssri's destroy it in feeling good?
what can you tell me?

Motivated by my frustration with certain side-effects of some other drugs I asked my pdoc (Dr. Liebowitz) about going on Serzone. He felt that Serzone wasn't a very strong anti-depressant, etc. My experience with Serzone in the past concurs with this. Anyway, I thought you might want to know his opinion at the time.

Serzone was my main AD for over a year. It didn't work as well as an SSRI, but the side effects weren't as bad either. The only noticeable side effect I had was, er, slightly soft stool. The AD effect ketp me out of the black hole, but I never felt as good as on an SSRI. Maybe with the Wellbutrin/Serzone combo you'll do better?

I've been on Serzone for about a month now and am thinking about going off. I don't think it has done much for my depression and the side effects have just been too much. I swear I'm stupid now, short term memory problems, and feel weak when working out, or my arms get tired even just blow drying my hair. I take Wellbutrin too. But, everyone is so different. Maybe the combo will work for you. There are lots of people who have done well on it too.

I was taking 500 mg. of serzone by the end of the year I was on it. I then was given Buspar instead of the other options like wellbutrin...
Bottom line with me is that Serzone made me too dizzy and the Buspar accentuated that side effect.
I went off all meds for about a year and now I am taking Depakote. It's working great - although I am a bit more tired so I will soon be trying to find a med. that will make me less sedated.
From what the doc said - buspar mixes best with serzone...but who knows?
Good luck on your journey to health.

My experience with it:Good points: No sexual sfx. It was remarkably effective at reducing *anticipatory* anxiety and agitation (more so than any non-benzo/non-AP med I've ever taken). Good for sleep. Didn't gain any weight. Definitely worked best for anxiety.
Bad points: Fatigue, dizziness, difficulty focusing my eyes, some cognitive dysfunction. Did not have the positive impact on *mood* that a standard SSRI has (weak AD effect-felt a little lazy on it and unmotivated).
I wonder if a small dose of a standard, relatively non-sedative SSRI (Lexapro, Prozac), combined with a small dose of Serzone might work quite well.
This is the end of the thread.
