Hello,
Any input on substances like coffee, cola and orange juice etc on interfering with amphetamines. I try to limit any acidic substances (ascorbic acid and above items) to prevent this when taking my Adderall. All that I have read is that it does decrease absorption. Anyone have any personal experience with this?
Thanks

As you said, avoid juices and carbonated beverages, EXCEPT grapefruit juice. I don't know what it is, but my doctor made it a BIG point to mention I avoid it.
On the flipside, you can take basic (is that even a word) substances that increases absorption. I take my Adderall with a glass of milk. HUGE difference!

I think we can drive ourselves nuts trying to determine the pH of everything we ingest. I try to avoid the most acidic substances during the day, like citrus juices, vitamin C, etc. I take my vitamins at night now. Unfortunately, so much of what we eat is acidic. Coffee is acidic. Sodas are acidic. The CO2 causes sodas to be acidic, and nearly all sodas contain phosphoric acid (by the way, the phosphoric acid is VERY BAD for your teeth, possibly even worse than sugar). I would try to avoid taking very acidic substances during the day, but you don't want to avoid citrus fruits altogether. You need to eat fruit.

Thanks,
To expand on this issue, if I quit coffee, here come the headaches.....ouch! Antacids w/ coffee would work....or maybe I should quit coffee...not a fun idea.

Does anyone have any idea why grapefruits should be avoided?

Although many of you on this board may eat meat, I should note for those interested in learning about digestion times and so fourth that Dr. Ornish has said before that meat takes three times as long to digest.
Why does this matter to you? Body odor is what concerns most people when they hear this. According to Dr. Ornish, a dietian, because meat takes so long to process, body odor emits at greater frequencies. You may not even realize you have body odor outside of your arms, but others may.
Of course, some don't want to switch to a plant-based diet. That's a choice someone has to make, and please don't consider this post a conversation on that choice. Reducing levels of meat to plant and fruit ratios may help those who are less comfortable with plants. But don't worry, once you start eating more of them, you notice they're pretty tame things that don't typically bite. Stay away from those bug-eating plants, because those freak me out.
btw, I'm writing a long post because I'm on 20mg of adderall, and it makes me write lots more than usual.

I was told grapefruit juice in particular increases either absorbtion or effectiveness of benzodiazepines. (a good thing or a bad thing depending how strongly one wants to feel a particular dose of benzo).
Don't know anything about it with stimulants though.

As far as I know, the only problem with amphetamines would be that the acid in grapefruit juice would increase the rate at which the amphetamine is excreted from the body. Grapefruit juice can be a big problem when combined with some other drugs, however. Grapefruit juice inhibits the cytochrome P450 liver enzymes 1A2, 2A6, 3A and intestinal 3A. It actually inhibits 3A quite a lot, so if you're taking a drug that requires 3A in order to be metabolized, and grapefruit juice is inhibiting 3A, the levels of the drug can build up to dangerous levels. Citalopram/Celexa is a substrate of 3A, so the levels of Celexa might build up if you drink grapefruit juice. There are many other drugs that can be affected by grapefruit juice enzyme inhibition.
