Do you Effexor XR-takers take it in the morning or evening, or split the dose? I (recently) can't go to sleep at night, (which I know is a side effect) and my pdoc says to take it in the morning. But in the past, I seemed to have better luck taking it in the evening (which surprised my doc). In the past, I have experienced that I actually couldn't even wake up if I forgot my evening dose.
I'm curious to know what others do. Thanks!

I had trouble sleeping at night and I had no energy during the day - completely physically exhausted.
Over the weekend I switched from morning dose to evening, and so far so good. Last night I took it at 6PM and I slept fine, no need for zaleplon or anything, and this morning I feel energetic, working normally instead of asking myself how I'll make it through the day.
I hope it lasts!- sid

I need to try taking it in the evening, then. I've been on 150 mg for almost a month, taking it in the morning, and I have trouble falling asleep. I need to call the MD, anyway, because my jaw problems have escalated into some jaw pain when I eat chewy things.

Do you still take medication for your seizure disorder?John

You really need to see the appropriate physicians to understand the roots of your jaw pain. On another thread, you mentioned that you were taking antiseizure medicines? Are you still taking these?
If you rule out TMJ, and possible seizure related issues, or facial neuralgia (maybe best treated with a antiseizure medicine), and you still have difficulty with insomnia and jaw pain, my recommendation may be to augment the Effexor with Serzone. The Serzone has a potential to make you feel dizzy. But it usually improves sleep architecture and may help with antidepressant induced jaw pain (I'm assuming you aren't taking any psychostimulants, these may also cause jaw pain).
Just some thoughts.

I have not taken Tegretol for many years. I have not increased caffeine intake, and I do agree I need to see someone about TMJ. I relate the TMJ to Effexor and the generic prozac before it because I never had problems with TMJ before.
Thanks for the insight. I'm starting to inch back the hour that I take Effexor. Today I took it right when I arrived at work. I'll keep this up for a while and see if there is any change.

I've tried taking Effexor XR in the morning and then midday. But now I'll try at night....It's not that I have difficulty sleeping, it's that I can't wake up! Like Sid said: completely physically exhausted. Sid, please let me know how it goes...and how's the weight loss?

Hi ST,
it's going well; I wake up in the morning and I'm not groggy. Wow. Great improvement. If this lasts, I won't have to add the Wellbutrin SR just yet.
Weight loss: :-( !
The semester is ending soon, so I should have a better lifestyle after... I'm very busy so I tend to not eat most of the day and then at night I eat too much. I'm also in the process of moving (in 2 weeks) and buying a car, so the weight loss is not at the top of my list right now. In a couple of weeks I'll address this issue more seriously. At least I have more energy now, so I feel like going outside and getting some exercise. I didn't have the energy for it not long ago.I hope you're still doing well; let me know how it goes with the change in the timing of your Effexor XR intake.

Hi ST,
I've been taking Effexor XR now since November 2001. I started at
37.5mg and then a few months later, I increased to 75mg. As soon as I
increased, I found myself to be very tired, I had to drag my butt around
all day in order to stay awake. I talked to my doctor and asked if I
could increase to 150mg. He agreed, so I finally did. Now it's been a few
months that I've been taking 150mg per day and I've been feeling just fine.
About a week after I increased, I was no longer tired and got most of my energy
back, it feels great. Now, I also read the part in your post where you asked about the weight loss. To
answer your question, since I've been on Effexor XR, I've actually lost about 30lbs
and haven't gained it yet. I find that while I was on different dosages, my appetite
would either increase or decrease. There are some weeks that I feel like eating
everything that's in the fridge and then there are other weeks where I can eat normally
and not feel like a pig. I've been trying to keep active on a daily basis along with
eating a healthy balance of foods.I hope this helps you out a little bit and I wish you the best of luck. Keep me posted.
