Effexor XR -who takes in morn or eve? (sleep prob)

Do you Effexor XR-takers take it in the morning or evening, or split the dose? I (recently) can't go to sleep at night, (which I know is a side effect) and my pdoc says to take it in the morning. But in the past, I seemed to have better luck taking it in the evening (which surprised my doc). In the past, I have experienced that I actually couldn't even wake up if I forgot my evening dose.
I'm curious to know what others do. Thanks!
