Take Effexor XR 150 mg. in the morning and Klonopin 0.5 mg. (down from 1 mg.) at bedtime. Depression is successfully managed. My problem is I am moderately anemic (hgb. 9.6, hct. 29) due to excessive blood loss during menstruation (age 41). I have been placed on iron 3 x a day and prescribed birth control pills. In the past I have tried every b/c formulation and I always get the same result, a strange sensation that I can only characterize as "nervousness". To the point where I just want out of my body. Yesterday, I had to resort to taking 0.25 mg. of Xanax, and felt much better. (I never have to take Xanax otherwise). But, I woke up with an anxiety attack that I got under control within 5 or 10 minutes and fell back to sleep.
Is this "nervousness" something that may resolve over time? I wonder if the anxiety attack was caused by the Xanax as well? I had to stop using Xanax in the past because I experienced "rebound". Any ideas or suggestions?

BC pills did not agree with me. I now have a compounded progesterone/tri-estrogen combination that I built up to slowly. It is made from yam. Still it is 'processed' but from a plant source, Which is closer to human hormone unlike mare's urine used in Premara. It is from a pharmacy that does compounding, Rx by M.D. or ND. If your doc only uses or knows of BC or Premara, find someone else, or educate s/he. Dr. Lee has good info on net.

Have you had your thyroid levels thoroughly checked out?
I had lots of problems, turned out mostly to be thyroid related. Felt much better after I got that controlled.
Get a second opinion. I've been the ER twice due to such heavy bleeding, but now it's much better with my thyroid under control. And, I'm hormone free for now!
If the bleeding comes back I am going to ask for surgery, citing I have too many other health problems and I can't tolerate the excess bleeding and I can't tolerate the hormones.
Get a second opinion, and be aggressive about this. Doctors will just let us go unless we get loud.
Good luck--

What kind of surgery? Most female surgery means that you need to use hormones afterward because your body's ability to manufacture them is affected. Research doctors in your area that specialize in hormones. They can check your levels of each hormone and balance them. My experience is that this doctor is generally not an ob/gyn or an endocrinologist but a clinic that specializes in hormones.

laparoscopic hysterectomy
Just to stop the bleeding. My docts (I have a OB/GYN; an endocrynologist; and an internist) were giving me LoOvral 4 pills/day to try and stop my bleeding and it didn't work. They also tried giving me Provera? I go from none to nonstop--it's never correct. Anyway ... it hasn't been so bad this year. If it gets bad again (and, more than likely it will) I am going to ask for this type of surgery.
Would you need hormones after that type of surgery?
And, if you think of the names of any of the hormone specialists please let me know. I'm not impressed with my endo. and ob/gyn solutions to this problem.
Thanks

First thing I'd look at is the progestin in b.c. pills. I am post-menopausal, have to take micronized progesterone in my HRT, progestin is famous for depression/ semi-constant PMS nerves.
Best,
Zo

Women's Health America is a women's pharmacy, lots of info and tests by mail (saliva) on hormones, I believe they do compounding as well.
Good luck,
Zo
