hey colleen
i quit smoking cigarettes just over a month ago (i quit on november 3 at 3:30 in the afternoon to be exact)
while i quit smoking because of the toll it was taking on my pocket book, i can feel my lung functioning increase and my gums getting healthier. these signs are really encouraging me to keep up with my quit.
i have spoken at length on this board before about quitting pot ... but now i smoke a little pot once in a while (haven't smoked pot since i quit smoking cigarettes though so i can't say what will happen in that case)
so how did i quit? cold turkey.
there is an amazing resource at http://whyquit.com/i told everybody i was quitting - at work, friends, etc so i was committed to the course
most of my friends are non-smokers. i will only be spending extended time with a smoker when my sister comes to visit.
and now that i have got this far, i do not want to back slide and lose my progress. i have quit cold turkey many many many times before and i typically relapse around 2-3 months, usually in times of great emotional stress. so i will have to report back in a few months to say how i'm doing.
but if you really want to quit, you can quit cold turkey! the first week is awful. it gets better after that.
