Cass, that's great you went out with a friend and had a drink. If only I could follow your lead and quit working so hard on school.
I'm not sure if you were joking, but I've had an out of body experience that was life-changing (I don't know if mystical is the right word) and transcending; have had a few more since then, but they were not as dramatic as the first one way back when I was 14. If you are in touch with your self/soul, and it sounds like you are, you can self-induce them after some practice. I've had 2 additional ones that were self-induced, but they were not as exciting or remarkable as the first. I really haven't had the patience to try it lately.
And I think I could call a few of my past dreams mystical and transcending, including a recent healing dream. The healing dream was not 'exciting', but the emotion attached and after effects are incredible. And am thinking of one particular mystical dream that was beyond beauty...but a long time ago...I'm not sure how to create your own dreams though..but some people can do that when lucid dreaming. Maybe you could practice? When you are sleepy--and when in that in between conscious wake/sleep state--is the best time to practice these things. You can tell your mind what to do right at the verge of slipping out of the awake-state of consciousness.
Just wanted to share. You really can have such experiences that you desire, and I can't think of a better way to escape than those. I think just about everyone has the ability to experience transcendant states, but not everyone taps into all their spiritual or mental resources.
Take care,
Garnet
