If Ativan, Xanax, et al where going for almost 2 bucks or more a pill, like our lovely friend Zyprexa, I somehow don't think we would have such a 'problem'. But, I have to add, I still think much of it is a "control" issue. Many docs/pdocs like to play god, and get some kind of weird pleasure from their sadistic behaviour. As writer Andrew Solomon says in his amazing book "Noonday Demon" , if it seems like you know more then your pdoc about certain drugs, quite likely you do.
