Nothing like my real dad, but I have always regarded him as the father I never had. He once asked me what I would want from him -to be his wife, his lover, his friend, his daughter - and I said, your daughter. Also, sweetly, he keeps close track of my own daughter, listens to recordings of her music I give him, asks about her. I told her this and she said, god, you act like he's my grandfather. And I guess I sort of feel like he is.Major father transference with him. But it's under control, I'm not delusional or in pain about it as I was at the beginning. Now, it just makes me very happy to see him regularly, if infrequently and, like my friend said, he's probably not going to be available to me much longer.
