I get a lot of mileage out of just reminding myself that
- So far it's never been as bad as my pre-event imagination thinks it will be
- My anxiety level diminishes a bit after the first hour or so
- There's a larger goal I'm pursuing by attending. I am choosing to endure a little anxiety (or a lot) for that goalPlus it really helped once I had a safe hobby to talk about, nothing embarrassing or controversial, and reasonably interesting to most folks. A sport, a hobby, something. That way I have something to go to when asked open-ended questions about what I've been doing or how was my weekend or something.
