> I have decided that things happen just because they CAN. .... that's all(no deeper reason)..... the wind blows because it can, water is wet because it is, hearts beat because they can, some people abuse because they can and some get destroyed or hurt because they can...... I don't buy that notion that "things happen for a reason"..... like was said-- how can anything with a soul/heart believe in that with regards to child abuse?? -- or murder-- or natural disasters resulting in death.... that's just disturbed thinking to me.

Your post is comforting reassurance. I like knowing you're around. Separating from guilt and shame for what has happened to me is difficult--I had so much religious indoctrination. Thanks for the support--kindness makes all the difference.

peace to you, too

I return again and again to the Herman book. I read a memoir recently called "Lucky", Alice Sebold's account of her rape. At the end of the book, she mentions being quoted in Herman's book! I was really amazed and rattled. I had already read Sebold's quote in Herman's book and didn't remember. (I don't necessarily recommend Sebold's book.)
