Work stress is so hard--higher-ups often don't seem to care whether or not their employees are well and happy. All they care about is how much they can get from you, and whether or not you disarrange their lives or plans. And to have major surgery on top of that--it sounds terrible.
I was in a similar situation several months ago, with a very unfair, abusive supervisor and a hellish amount of stress over it, because my job is very important to me and it would be a huge loss if I lost it.
I don't have any huge wisdom, but try to remember what is important--your health, emotional and physical, and the people you care about and who care about you (who would probably continue to do so even if you lost your job). You can't be perfect all the time, and you can't give everyone what they want one hundred percent of the time. I hope things get better soon.
