How long into therapy can you see progress?

How long into a therapy can you objectively see antidepressant effects?

This is a topic I don't see discussed much in here, or at least I haven't stumbled across any thread on the matter.

Seems like in the antidepressant forums, actual results are the topic of choice, while in therapy, more trouble with Ts gets discussed. But what about actual results from therapy? Is there such a thing?

Despite my personal problems with my current T, there's obviously been discussion with her on every single topic and all the experiences that have caused my depression.

As of today, I still feel outrageously depressed in spite of therapy (and antidepressants,) so I would like to gauge whether there has been ANY improvement whatsoever resulting from this therapy, or if it all has been worthless?

I've seen my current T for 4 months. Is there a way to my gauge progress from therapy?

I recall we had a session where I brought up one of the issues that made me fall back into the absolute worst depression I've ever had after years that I had somewhat been above that issue.

We simply discussed it once and then my T immediately moved on to discuss just about ANY topic that happened to come up. The issue continues to destroy me, and she didn't try to dig deeper, or to help me with ways to cope with the issue. She simply didn't do a THING to help me work through it. I don't know if that's actual "therapy"--just somewhat touching on the topic that is affecting your life--but that's just how it was with my T.

So my question is, for all those who've been in therapy for several months or years.. are you able to gauge your progress in therapy? Can you gauge the degree to which your depression has objectively reduced as a result of your therapy?

Personally, I don't feel any better after 4 months of being in therapy. Or maybe therapy takes years to help? I've never known how this works--or whether it works at all!

Thanks in advance for any feedback
