Lots of therapists have different views on gifts, depending on their orientation. I don't think whether they do or don't accept gifts reflects on their abilities or their ethics. Just like some therapists choose to hug or not hug clients -- depends on their personal comfort level and the kind of clients they typically work with. I guess I'm surprised that you are "shocked" -- is this really new information, that different therapists work differently?
