In reply to I asked my pdoc about DBT again, posted by Deneb on February 12, 2007, at 10:43:48
In the DBT service I worked in, the vast majority of clients were *alot* more disordered than you Deneb.. ALOT more disordered.
Their therapists worked with them, using not just DBT techniques at first but also CBT, psycho education etc etc, until they were ready to move into more standard DBT, and even at that point, I would say they were more disordered than you are. Some were prostitutes, some drug addicts, some seriously anorexic, all self harming severely, some in long term hositalisation..
It seems a strange thing for your pdoc to say, as DBT has shown to have very good results for seriously chaotic individuals..
Personally, I would lke to see you see someone else, if only for a second opinion.. What therapy qualifications does your pdoc have? Medical training doesn't include psychological therapies, so she would have to study seperately for her therapy quals. As I've said before, out of the hundreds of pdocs I know, only two are also trained therapists..
