lol. Yes, Daisy. He says that our relationship has helped a lot in his journey to being a more mature therapist.
You know, come to think of it, he used to protect himself from becoming too invested by leaning back, crossing his arms (literally or physically), and throwing up a wall. Disengaging. I HATED that, and would always wail "You're crossing your arms! You're crossing your arms!" I told him I'd rather he yell than cut me off from him. So this time he figuratively yelled and I told him to back off. I did indeed prefer it to disengaging, but I didn't like it.
Boy, I'm tough.
But he managed to walk that fine line between disengagement and overinvestment in our last session.
You know, I am going to have to remember a lot of this as my son enters his teen years. :)
