I was reading about the... Tianaman (spelling??!) massacre / rememberance thereof...
I was reading about how Australia allowed however many people to move to Australia to get away from China as a response to that.
It was a well-written article, I thought. It made Australia look good. There were nice stories from people who moved to Australia from China and who were happy with their new life in Australia.
I worry that people move for a supposedly better life... And end up worse off, actually, than when they started.
We keep hearing stories of professional people. People who are practicing professionals, apparently, who give up their professional status in order to move to another country. Who, on arrival to the new country somehow make do on fairly minimal refugee relocation payments or similar... So that their children get to be professionals (or similar) in the new country.
And I think to myself: Why? How is that not a side-ways move or a bit of a jump backwards?
And I suppose that they were refugees... So actually they lost their professional status back home, already. Right? They are political refugees... That meanst that the government (or whomever) is seeing about removing their professional registrations / lisences... Removing them from pay-roll... Maybe locking them up as crazy or criminalising them...
Maybe just continually wasting their time...
I don't know. I don't understand.
