Hi JenStar,
I get a variety of symptoms. Some months I get all of the symptoms; at other times just a few symptoms predominate. I seem to be more prone to severe cramps when the weather is cold and damp, but it might not have anything to do with the temperature or humidity. It occurred to me that since the weather is usually cold and damp during the winter, when I'm more depressed anyway, the worsened PMS may be related to the lack of light or melatonin.
The PMS crankiness is pretty consistent from month to month. Sometimes, like the other day, it is absolutely unbearable. I really felt as if I had to jump out of my skin.
The Magnesium (I've been using Magnesium glycinate) is calming for me. I take it at night because if I take it during the day or too late at night, I feel sluggish all day. The Magnesium seems to help the premenstrual tension and irritability, although nothing helped this month.
A few years ago, Prozac/fluoxetine was re-named Sarafem and marketed for use during severe bouts of PMS. Unfortunately, serotonin reuptake inhibitors are not my cup of tea, and I actually get MORE depressed if I take ssri's during the luteal phase of my cycle.
Thanks so much for your help.
Sarah
