Thank you so much for your post 10derHeart and your questions are most welcome.
First of all - I am in South Africa so even with the exchange rate, I wouldn't be able to guess at a $ cost. The contract is 12 months though and I was happy the monthly cost is not exceptionally high. (So's my husband as he's paying :)
Sure, a regular gym might have been a little cheaper what with using a pool, having showers etc. but the discipline and constant contact with the fitness trainers and monthly re-evaluation of goals (weighing in, measuring and pep talks) is what drew me in.
Another plus for me is that it is easy going exercise. I don't leave Curves feeling breathless or exhausted. Nor do I feel that I can't continue halfway through the work-out. It is just more than 30 minutes, including the stretching exercises. So nice and quick for a busy schedule.
There are only women at my Curves - no men allowed. Another plus for me. The women that I have met range from 18 to 80. Some are already curvy where others, like myself, clearly need to lose weight. Because everything is so relaxed and 'close', I have not felt judged or "looked at", if you know what I mean.
I have had 11 work-outs in less than a month and though I am frustrated that there is no weight or inch loss yet, my husband says there is some shape to my legs again!
I have found Curves to be very relaxed, very personal, which is what I need, and well, quite easy!
Ha ha!! The music. I do sometimes find it repetitive and there sometimes seems to be volume issues. Today some jazzed up Christmas Carols came on and I did NOT find them conducive to exercising, but that's just me.
I would have to say that it is the ideal programme to get you in the habit and to establish consistency. I know that I have not been sorry, even with a 30 minute brisk walk, in the rain, to get there!
Thank you also, for your kind words about me being in a better place. I fight this sometimes, but yes, I am in a better place. And that makes me feel "important".
I would love to hear what you decide, and I wish you the very best of luck.
Sabrina
