I cannot tolerate rx meds for dysthymia and ADHD.
I have great hope for fish oils, having started and stopped them many many times, but ultimately being unable to deal with the anxiety. Though energizing, in the past they've generally NOT been helpful for ADHD and the anxiety has overshadowed any possible antidepressant effect.
I recently decided to try 100% EPA (1 gm/dy), hoping perhaps it might be more effective and/or less anxiety provoking. It's only been a few days and I notice a *definite* mood lift-- it is very stimulating--but once again the anxiety has also returned, and it's too early to tell if this is a true antidepressant effect or just considerable stimulation. (The anxiety has not responded to Taurine or Magnesium, only a benzo, which I only take a few times yearly if absolutely needed).
I truly believe that minus the anxiety the EPA could prove to be an effective antidepressant and perhaps ADHD treatment for me.
Is there any reason to believe that:
a. the anxiety will abate?
b. that the 100% EPA is advantageous over common EPA/DHA preparations?
c. .5 grams EPA would be effective for mood and ADHD?
Sorry for the long post, but I would greatly appreciate any experiences or suggestions. Thanks...Peace...Saturn.
