I googled MSG and excitotoxin and got 13,200 hits. My wife is sensitive to MSG and been getting migraines as a result. If you read some of these links you'll see that some thing that MSG is a very poisonous substance to brain tissue.
I'd like to use this thread to compile a list of supplements that will block the glutamate receptor (perhaps the NMDA subtype). Also possible that GABA agonists will work just as well.
In a previous post Larry Hoover mentioned to someone who had an MSG reaction:
"There is a quick, safe, and easy solution, if you happen to have some of the amino acid called taurine handy.
Taurine shuts down glutamate.
A gram or two of taurine would have had you fixed up in ten minutes. Seriously."So for the first supplement I'd like to nominate Taurine. I've taken it myself hoping for anxiety relief as a glutamate antagonist.
Other glutamate antagonists I've taken are Magnesium and Zinc.
I've read quite a few of those MSG articles and no one seems to have come up with a solution to counter MSG.
I've read that Green Tea is consumed regularly in Japan where MSG was invented. It is believed that the Theanine counteracts the MSG
