FWIW, and this is not directed at Scott, rather I'm just taking the opportunity to share my thoughts.
I don't see the posting here as intended to disrupt and derail, although that's certainly the result, over and over. I like to take people at their word about their motivations, just because I don't like it when people insist that my motivation is something that I don't feel myself.
I don't believe people are necessarily conscious of causes of their actions, but that doesn't make speculations true, either. It can be unknown.
What I see here is more like a compulsive thought pattern, a stuck record. No matter what the topic, it triggers the same sense of danger of anti-Semitism, etc., and the desire to do what's in his limited power to fight back. I expect it must be very exhausting and isolating to have such an obsession, even if there may be (speculation on my part) some enjoyment of the feeling of crusading for justice.
I can understand why Bob considers it supportive to let the posts continue, although I'm not sure I agree that the support to that one poster is worth the disruption to the discussion. I think Bob's expectations for others to avoid being distressed by the situation are probably too high.
