Might it help everyone to maintain boundaries if deputies didn't just sign their posts as Deputy X, but had separate Deputy X posting names? They could use those when posting as deputies and their usual X posting names when posting as regular posters. That way, it might be (more) clear when they were on duty and when they were off.
