How 'bout loosening up and considering that most public figures (politicians, actors, etc.) CHOOSE to be in the spotlight? They are choosing to open themselves to being the butt of jokes and having public opinion heaped on top of them.
Like it or not, that's just one of their job hazzards, which is not any different than a phlebotomist risking infection if poked with a dirty needle. It comes with the territory.
They're compensated well enough to "escape" when they feel the need to.
These people pay a lot of money to publicists to KEEP us talking about them, jokes included.
And what's that old quote? "I don't care what you say about me in the papers, as long you spell my name right."
