Hi Phillipa,

Tolerance to benzos builds up quickly (for most people). Is there a specific reason you take both at night? Perhaps try changing the dosing schedule. I'd take the Xanax (or as others suggested, Ativan) at night to help with sleep, and the longer-acting Valium during the day. It could help to split the Valium up as two doses (5mg in the morning and 5mg in the afternoon).
