MAOIs and soy restrictions

Posted by kakalak on September 12, 2011, at 14:29:41

In a few weeks I'll be taking an MAOI. I'm a bit confused about the diet; particularly soy. I am vegetarian and eat tofu a few times a week and soy protein at least once a day as it's my main source of protein. Obviously my mental health is far more important than my love for veggie burgers and the like, but I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty bummed. I've read contradicting info about tofu and can't find much info about soy protein. Has anyone here been able to eat tofu without issues? I'm referring to the packaged tofu and tofu in dishes at restaurants. Also, has anyone eaten soy protein, Morningstar Farms, Boca, Amy's frozen products and Tofurkey deli slices, without any issues? If it says "contains soy" on the package, am I just not allowed to eat it?
I'd really appreciate any info - I'm feeling pretty discouraged.
Thanks!
