By the way, what happens if you treat someone who is suffering from MDD who has no problems? What about BD? What about schizophrenia? I should think that the fraction of therapeutic response to antidepressants and other psychotropics can, indeed, represent 100% of the answer.
Here, you might have to find information to prove that all biologically-driven depressions are triggered by having problems; that there are no cases of depression that develop spontaneously and without exposure to abnormal psychosocial stress.
Some rats and mice are bred to be "depressed" using genetic knockout methods. These individuals perform worse on tail-suspension and other tests, demonstrating a premature depressive reaction. Transporters and receptors can be manipulated this way. A "depressed" mouse can be converted to a non-depressed mouse by applying antidepressants.
Do you have any proof to offer that would indicate that "problems" must be present in order for MDD or BD to emerge? What about the people who have problems, but no depression? Do all problems lead to depression? Is there no one in the world who has depression, but no problems?

I dream of things that never were and ask why not.
