I think the concern with MAOIs has more to do with emergent situations, than what you can eat. A lot of drugs are contraindicated with MAOis. If you have an emergancy a lot of younger EMTs would be clueless in how to help you. It was a big deal when my gmom had to get an operation. The surgeon blames nardil, she had been on, for her long recovery, since lab results were negative for infections.
That being said I think it would be better to try Parnate or Nardil instead of trying hundreds of combos that don't work. Even my pdoc admitted they work better than newer drugs. When I asked about TCAs she said they were no better than SSRIs and MAOis were the only drug that were significantly superior. Also I would recommend you try Nardil if Parnate doesn't work. I know many associate Parnate as helping with anhedonia, but if you look at the anecdotal reports on askapatient.com, you will find many Parnate users saying the drug made them feel flat and emotionless. There are a couple that specifically mention Nardil helped with anhedonia and nobody saying it blunted their emotions. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try Parnate, just keep Nardil in mind if that doesn't help. They are very different.
