In reply to blood pressure 244/102-- why?, posted by inanimate peanut on January 10, 2010, at 17:36:08
InanimatePeanut,
Please, as someone who has suffered hypertensive crisis with Nardil (through cheese), I implore you to not "f" with high blood pressure. It is deadly. My doctors have told me they would not add Wellbutrin due to the potential for HBP (of course, it is a calculated risk). Furthermore, find out what is in your protein shake. There are all sorts of ingredients in those shakes. Things as seemingly innocuous as soy/tofu could trigger hypertensive crisis.
Also, I keep a drug called Nifedipine with me. In the event of hypertensive crisis, I bite into one and swallow it. It lowers the BP.
Also, in my case, the cheese causing hypertensive crisis was not an immediate reaction. It took an hour or two before I started feeling the severe headache.
Be well,
Atypical
> My blood pressure went up to 244/102 last night. I almost had to go to the ER (I refused treatment with the ambulance). It stayed up at around 185/107 for a long time. I have no idea what caused this. The only things I ate were ice cream and cake at a friend's house. Earlier in the day I had had my protein shake. I had nothing else for the day. I took my regular meds except added Wellbutrin. I took the Wellbutrin this morning as well and my bp stayed down at normal levels (below normal actually). Anyway, it was really scary and I wish I knew what caused it so I wouldn't do it again. Has this ever happened to any of you? Seemingly spontaneous spikes in BP? What do you think caused it?
