thanks for the comments...yeah, thats what i read too, but the 30-40% figure was "remission", and remember the people who get VNS are usually quite treatment resistant and have suffered for depression for years...so if 30% actually remit, I think thats something to applaud. but what a freakin pain in the *ss for the 70%, who now have this implant.
in any event, i've already tried rTMS and it didn't work for me. thankfully ECT looks like its starting to kick in after 22 sessions, but the memory loss is pretty profound. Hopefully mood stays stable, but if I ever fall back again to a suicidal depression, I'd go for VNS over another round of ECT, given how profound the memory effects have been for me.
