Hi,
I have a few questions for anyone who has / is considering a VNS device for treatment of their depression. For those who have it, have the results been to your satisfaction; is the antidepressant effect truly noticable and qualitatively different than what you have experienced (or not experienced) with antidepressants?
How long did it take to get the settings correct to get a full a/d response?
How painful was the recuperation process?
In general are you satisfied?
Did you consider or go through a course of ECT before getting the VNS device?
Are the side effects noticeable and do they bother you?
For those of you also considering VNS, have you also gone through ECT? Any questions of importance I'm missing?
And does anyone know in general what the response rate in practical settings is for VNS, given enough time to play around with the settings? I'd hate to have surgery for something that only has an effect for a minority of patients...
After 23 ECTs and still not feeling well, I think it's time for me to consider my other options.
Thanks so much for the responses. If you have any pointers to other online resources or groups, i'd appreciate it.
Alex
