There are a lot of factors that might be influencing your reactions, but I have to tell you that sustained cardio exercise has the same effect on me. It *always* causes big increases in my anxiety and usually depression too. If I run every day for a week, I am usually near-suicidal. The worst time in my life was when I was regularly training for marathons.
I don't know if I overdo it, or if it's just something about my brain chemistry.
But I hate, hate, hate it when people walk around saying "just exercise, it cures depression!" Nope. In some of us, it makes depression, anxiety, and insomnia much worse.
I've gotten *much* better results not running or doing anything intense, but instead walking outside 2-3 days a week and doing yoga.
