This topic always good for a heated argument on this board. They don't study opioids and most doctors don't write scripts because of drug hysteria - in short. Never mind that many "addicts" are self-medicating to relieve the psychic pain.
That said, the few studies that have been done, although few and underfunded, have found that about 20% to 30% of depressed patients have been helped. So not all psychiatric patients will automatically benefit, but some will.
I would advise that even after you have your baby, not to try that route if you live in the US. Even if you were to find someone to prescribe on a regular basis, highly unlikely in this climate, could you guarantee that the dr wouldn't get cold feet later?
