Interesting how the last research article seem to point that it is possible that Psychosis may possible be a REM sleep disturbance when conscious by having too much Dopamine D2 in the hippocampal areas of the brain. Could it be possible in theory that Schizophrenia may actually be a sleep disorder! In neurotypical individuals who do not have psychosis, when they enter REM at night-also D2 becomes hyperactive-But Norepinephrine in the part of the brain that produces it, ceases-thus paralyzing the muscles during neurotypical REM psychosis: AKA-Dreaming.
Provigil seems to work on Hypercretin which is produced deep in the brain that is know to be the sleep-wake control center (there is a feline study online of what parts of the brain Provigil, Ritilan, and Amphetamines effect.) Adderall being the most potent activation of the brain, then MPH, and lastly Provigil being target specific. Provigil also produces an extra-cellular dopamergenic response and may work with Serotonin levels. Therefore, being effective as a stimulant usually only in patients with sleep problems associated with Narcolepsy, ADHD, and others.
