I couldn't agree more. It's counter-intuitive I suppose, and there is much ignorance out there in the general public on this point. I have had to explain this to people several times, ("how do you ever calm down/sleep on that "stuff?") and some I am remembering were RNs and MDS. It was not their area of expertise, and if their isn't interest due to a family member of yourself having ADD, well, then, they just don't know....
I too, used to sleep *much* better while taking my MPH doses. If you really educate yourself on AD(H)D then it does make sense, knowing what the ADD-brain does when one tries to sleep! It turns on, revs up, runs through every little thing.....anyway....I always found the stimulant quieted all this and allowed a focus on sleep, if that makes sense. Just like during waking activities, it helped tune out all the chatter and other "channels" so I could do the task at hand.
I take Strattera now, but I remember just what you are saying about Ritalin.
