The Good The Bad and The Ugly about prescriptions

I went to pick up my prescriptions today. My insurance has capped. I no longer get prescription drug help until january 1st of 2008. I am on 200mg of lamictal and 4mg of risperdal. For 30 pills of lamictal it costs $175.72 which isn't too bad. The risperdal for 30 pills is $319.00 I am wanting to know if anyone knows about some kind of medication whether it be a mood stabilizer or something to control mania that is not expensive? I thought about lithium but I am scared to take it. Are benzodiazepines a good choice for mania?
