You need to take it and go to bed right away. Ambien does not make you feel drowsy, and if you take it and stay up, it does not tend to put you to sleep. It can make you feel quite loopy if you stay up, though.

It usually takes me about 15 minutes. There have been rare occasions when it took hours. I'm really not sure what's going on when that happens.

Also, what dose are you taking?
