I wouldn't want to say that, because if you are suffering panic (i.e.) or extreme GAD and agitation, they can be lifesavers and halt a nasty destructive cortisol cascade and allow you to get sleep and your mind to rest. The trouble comes (IMO), when you experience aggravated depression due to chronic use when they may not be needed as much, and it might be best to be at a lower dosage or on a different (less depressogenic) benzo, or off of them altogether, and/or on an alternative....
