Somtimes attention deficit type problems are incorrectly diagnosed as OCD. In this case it is more "indecision" that leads to rumination etc.
Let me give you an example.
Ocasionally I would enter the house and put my shoes on the mat, after this, I would keep moving them around in different spots of the mat, left, center, right back front etc, somtimes for a good 5-10 minautes.
This seemed to be an OCD symptom, but it was really the fact that I was half asleep, and my mind was not in the room with me, ie. I was really thinking about someting else.
After a cup of coffee however, I noticed, I would come in and put them first thing exactly where I wanted.
I had no desire for perfection or neetness, but more the fact that my mind wasn't on what was happening infront of me.
I notice that on my school work. I would drift of into LA LA land, and start re-dotting my I's and recrossing my T's, over and over. AFter a cup of coffee I would wake up and realize what the heck I was really trying to do.
For these symptoms (where it is mainly lack of attention) It wasn't the fact that I couldn't let go (OCD) but rather that I couldn't hold on (Attnetion problems).
For these types of "drift off into LA LA land, and repeat things over and over" symptoms, SSRI's are often TERRABLE. And stimulants can break the rut cause they restore attention.
I hope I am not confusing you, but I guess a stimulant or Wellbutrin (similar in actions to stimulants) is the acid test for seperating OCD from attention related disorders.
