I think its becoming much more common for doctors to prescribe atypical antipsychotics for insomnia or as an augmenting agent for antidepressant. They are usually given in very low doses ...lower than those used for psychotic problems.
Of course, it would be much better if they actually TOLD you they are antipsychotics rather than let the patien have the "pleasant" surprise of finding out researching it on the internet.
There is something seriously unnerving when you land on a site that talks about the meds that you are taking for depression and see something like
- This medication is used to treat symptoms of psychotic disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
If only they would take the time to tell us and reassure us ... it would save alot of little paranoid fear trips to alot of patients I think ... you know how after you see that you're being given antipsychotics without having been told and you start to wonder if the doctors might not be trying to "trick" you into taking them ... not telling you what they "really" think you have.
That being said, I've also taken Seroquel at 50mg for a while but it zombified me too much. I work and I just couldn't deal with the hangovers in teh morning.
