Even if he's uncertain, it couldn't hurt for you to give it a whirl. It was my understanding that there were studies documenting its effectiveness in depression. I know my pdoc had a copy of one paper showing selegioline + L-phenylalanine to be effective in treating depression. I don't have refs offhand, but you could probably search them out.
Although it's not iron-clad, there's anecdotal evidence on this board. A few of us have found 5-10 mg to be helpful, which is convenient from the dietary perspective. Search the psycho babble archives.

What side effects is he worried about? Was he specific? Did he think there any evidence that there would be worse side effects than with any other AD? Other than finding it really stimulating, I don't recall any noticeable SEs at 5-10 mg.
