I dunno -- of everything I've read, if it doesn't say methylphenidate is **related** to amphetamine, it out-right says methylphenidate is a type of amphetamine. One source said that amphetamine-like CNS stimulants can:
1) cause the release of dopamine from axon terminals.
2) block dopamine reuptake.
3) inhibit the storage of dopamine in vesicles.
4) inhibit the destruction of dopamine by enzymes.but the thing most emphasize for both is (1).
Whatever the verdict, different meds in the same class can have widely different effects across individuals. SSRIs apparently work for a lot of people, but each one has a different negative effect on me of varying intensities. YMMV
