i have also heard good things about emdr, although i haven't tried it. after seven years, i'm down to occasional xanax, having recently withdrawn from effexor.
ptsd is a long difficult road, i'm not saying i'm over it. and i agree that you must find peace within yourself. drugs are important to the treatment, but they won't cure you!
as for the effexor - i hate that drug. it made me a zombie. i don't think anyone should take it except as a last resort. just my opinion....

Great options are marijuana or MDMA with psychotherapy (I am totally serious), but you're not going to find a practitioner using that, heh.
