In reply to Celexa MANIA - help!, posted by Janelle on February 6, 2004, at 9:08:05
Hi:
It's VERY common to induce 'mania/hypomania'after any of SSRIs, such as your case, Celexa.
The best strategy to fight it back is taking/adding 'mood stabilizer,' such as Depakote, Tegretol, even Lithium.
In my knowledge, Depakote is a very first-line mood stabilizer for Bipolar II and work good for 'rapid cycler' that sometime induced by SSRi.
Lithium is generally said to be good for Bipolar I that has more serious form of Bipolar.
Besides this, if you have/experiencing Bipolar, rather than SSRIs, it might be better to take other form of AD, such as Remeron, Wellbutrin and Effexor. The last one, Effexor is not quite SSRI, but seems better than 'pure' SSRI, such as Paxil and Zoloft.
Talk to your pdoc. asap.
