Celexa MANIA - help!

Posted by Janelle on February 6, 2004, at 9:08:05

Hi - I know that the SSRI anti-depressants all run the risk of inducing mania in people with BiPolar disorder. I have BP2, and recently I have had episodes of hypomania accompanied by tremendous anxiety and obsessiveness and am wondering of all the SSRI's how *bad* Celexa is for inducing mania? I had been on Paxil for years before it gave me mania and then pooped out on me!

I was taking 50mg a day which is on the high side for Celexa because after mania I go into DEEP incapacitating depression and exhaustion because my body cannot sustain the outpouring of energy and adrenalin during a hypomanic episode. I've lowered the Celexa from 50 to 40 to 30 and do not want to go any lower for fear of losing its antidepressant qualities. I do feel far less hyper on the lower dose of Celexa.

Anyone on Celexa who knows about its potential for inducing mania versus the other SSRI's or anyone who just knows about this issue in general? THANKS!
