I am on abilify and an 24 years old. I am Bipolar 1 and my doctor has told me that there have been studies that prove that abilify is also useful in preventing manic episodes. I also have been told that it does not cause any weight gain. It has not caused me to gain weight. Good luck with your son and I hope this has been useful. Karen
