I definitely do experience positive mood from exercise. I know this, and yet I get out of the habit of exercising and have difficulty motivating myself to return to it. When I do, once I get past the initial obstacle of how hard it is to break out of the stiffness and slowness from not exercising for a long time, I always wonder how I could stay away for so long, as it clearly has mood benefits. For example, coming home from a day at work, if I feel anxious or tense, exercising can make me feel so much calmer and relaxed--this effect is immediate. It also has ongoing positive mood effects.
