In reply to Trileptal and zoloft, posted by nmk on December 20, 2002, at 18:49:59
> I am still struggling with postpartum depression and my baby is close to a year old. I have tried zoloft, effexor, and lexapro, all with little success. My doctor put me back on 125mg of zoloft since that was the only antidepressant I could tolerate and he recently added 300mg of Trileptal twice a day. I haven't been diagnosed as bipolar, I just struggle daily with intense anxiety and depression. My pdoc wants to try the mood stabilizers now since I am not responding to the antidepressants. A few questions....if the Trileptal is going to help, when will I notice any changes? Is the zoloft dosage too high in combonation with the Trileptal? Do I even need the zoloft or can I take the Trileptal alone? Sorry for all of the questions, I just don't know much about Trileptal and am hoping that anyone on it can enlighten me. My pdoc also stated that it is supposed to act on estrogen, which in turn can positively affect mood. Any help would be greatly appreciated....I am running out of options.

Nicole, I am taking a tiny dose of Trileptal for bipolar seasonal depression (along with other meds) and it does seem to have some definite antidepressant properties. I also responded very well to Zoloft in the past. All you can do is try it and see what happens. I wouldn't want to stop a med (Zoloft) that had a history of effectively helping until you get an idea of how the new med is working..
