Synthroid is for energy and possible mood stability. It doesn't seem to have effected me in any major way, but I'm on a very low dose. Lamictal and Depakote are for mood stability as well. It's hard to say exactly what role they play. My pdoc is going to slowly pull some meds away to see how I do. My sense is that the addition of Paxil CR has been the most beneficial, but it's unclear exactly what role the other meds play in my overall mental health. He feels that I may benefit from fewer meds rather than more. I was treated by my last pdoc as bipolar II and anti-convulsants, etc. were piled on. My current pdoc concedes I may be in that spectrum but questions if I necessarily benefit from being treated as a bipolar. I feel I was somewhat misdiagnosed as bipolar II, but I would rather the misdianosis be in this direction than the other as bipolar disorder is a truly hellish experience. Meds + CBT has been the most beneficial to me so far. I am so grateful to have gotten the kind of care I have. I urge anyone who is not getting better to seek the best they can afford. I can't really afford Dr. Liebowitz, but I know many people don't have the luxury of paying for care they can't afford. Every person battling mental illness deserves this. So anyone with a chronic depression, etc. who continues to suffer, you owe it to yourself not to skimp on your care -- so long as you don't have to give up eating :) This was the best decision I ever made... Hang in there everyone!
