In reply to the sound of wind chimes creeps me out, posted by mist on June 16, 2002, at 16:36:06
I love the gentle tinkling sound of some chimes - glass Chinese chimes especially, also the tonking of bamboo & the gentle clackering of thin shells but I hate the noisy ones. Even so, when a wind comes along, I take my chimes down - it's no longer a gentle background, off-and-on sound but crashing & banging instead. The whole idea, I think, should be a soothing feeling & if it's not doing that, get rid of them. I've used them almost 40 years now back when the neighbours assumed I was some demonic thing to have them then.
What I find much more distressing is the sound of planes (thinking back to all the WW II shows I watched as a kid) & the harsh roar of Harleys & cars with crap mufflers. I hate mechanical noises on the whole. That, & some neighbours' dogs incessantly barking.
Mist, out of curiosity, is there something about wind chimes from a memory that gets to you, or simply their sounds?
